Natural Beauty: DIY Brown Sugar Lemon Body Scrub Recipe

I came home last night with several projects weighing on my mind. After a few hours of working, I noticed that it was already nine o’clock–and of course, since I worked on the computer instead of peeling, prepping, and cooking, there was no dinner on the table. So with a deep sigh, I headed to the kitchen–and proceeded to whip up this delicious, scrumptious brown sugar lemon scrub!!

Not only does this scrub smell and feel amazing, brown sugar removes flaky, dull dead skin cells, while the oils nourish and moisturize and the lemon juice brightens. It’s especially great for restoring some glow to your skin during winter. To use: wash your face like you normally do, apply about 2 tsp on your face, and gently scrub away in a circular motion, avoiding the delicate eye areas. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry. Then, apply your usual toner and wipe with a cotton pad to remove any residue. (I used my super favorite Coconut Water Toner Spray from Everyday Coconut). Follow with your usual moisturizer and admire your glowing, dewy skin!

I made some in about two minutes, washed my face and did the scrub, and watched fifteen minutes of Frozen Planet! (The episode where one of the three polar bear cubs is underweight! Don’t pretend you don’t know exactly which episode I’m talking about.) This was the perfect antidote to a long hard day. As for dinner, it ended up coming together in just ten minutes–pan-fried polenta with sauteed asparagus and mushrooms–no biggie. Sometimes, it is so worth prioritizing what’s nice for yourself–just because.

DIY Brown Sugar Lemon Scrub

Makes about 1/2 cup

1/2 cup organic brown sugar

3 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp sweet almond oil

1 tbsp fresh squeezed lemon juice

Mix all ingredients together. Store the remaining scrub in an airtight container for up to five days, but I recommend using it on your body, focusing especially on rough areas.
