I Drank Golden Milk Every Day For A Month. Here's What Happened

November 23, 2022

After having a lot of pain in my joints for over a decade, going from doctor to doctor and noone really being able to tell me what I had and trying every remedy under the sun without any success, a family friend who has had similar (and worse) issues for a long time suggested adding Golden Milk to my daily routine as it really helped her. After reading up on it online, listening to people talk about their health improving after drinking Golden Milk every day, and looking into the science behind it (yes, there are quite a few scientific studies about it, especially on the benefits of tumeric, the main ingredient of the power drink), I decided to give it a try. I have been drinking it every day and a month in, I definitely feel some of the benefits already.

What is Golden Milk?

Golden milk hand has been gaining popularity in the West as well. The main ingredient is tumeric, which is then mixed with water, juice or plant-based milk. The original recipe also calls for some pepper as this is supposed to enhance the effect of the turmeric on the body. A lot of people are leaving the pepper out though, as too much of it can have a negative effect on your stomach. There are also many other things that can be added for different benefits such as Ashwaganda, rose hip, barley grass and other Indian healing powders, all with their own benefits. It really depends on your personal needs and issues that you are trying to fix.

Health Benefits

Among the benefits of golden milk (and especially tumeric in general) are following:

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Powerful antioxidant
  • helps with joint pain/arthritis
  • Immunity booster
  • better brain function and improved memory
  • Delays diabetes
  • Reduces the risk of heart diseases
  • Reduces risk of cancer
  • Helps in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease
  • Helps patients with depression

It’s been used to help with the common cold, inflammation, upset stomach and more. Especially in winter time, a warm Golden Milk mixed with some ginger is gonna help boost one’s immune system. It’s also important that you use the most pure powders possible. Try to find an organic store and pure turmeric, without any added ingredients.

Varieties

I currently drink the Golden Milk cold each morning. I take one teaspoon of turmeric and I add one teaspoon of rose hip for my joint pain. I also add some barley grass, Ashwaganda and Shatavari as well as a few drops of CBD oil. Then I add my plant milk and I am good to go. As it has been getting quite cold here, I have also tried the warm version. For this one I only use turmeric and a bit of cinnamon as the other powders lose some of their effects when heated up. I have also bought a capsule machine and have been making my own capsules with the powders for when I am on the go or when I am too lazy to prepare the drink. The capsules are also great for people who do not like the taste of the golden milk (it does take some getting used to it). Often, some sort of oil is added as well: I personally do not like it, so I just eat a fatty breakfast after, such as porridge. It also does not matter if you drink it in the morning or at night, although I prefer the morning.

So, no matter if you just use turmeric or add a few other ingredients, whether you drink it cold or warm, in the morning or at night or take the capsules—do what suits you best. Just make sure, you are consistent and do it every day to reap the most benefits. Note, that it can also take a while for you to feel any different—Rome wasn’t built in a day either.
