DIY Valentines in 3 Easy Steps

How to make DIY Valentines in just 3 steps

I can easily spend hours sorting through magazine clippings and collaging, but I don’t always have time for that. I love sending and receiving handmade cards, so I don’t want to let time constraints get in the way of a little DIY Valentine action.  The following steps go relatively quickly and can produce thoughtful cards with your unique touch.

You will need:

Scissors

Glue

Blank cards and envelopes (or card stock folded into cards)

Ruler (if you like straight lines)

A few pretty images (can be stickers, magazine clippings, repurposed “junk”)

A few pretty pieces of paper (can be magazine clippings, scrapbook paper, etc.)

Something to write with (a good black pen will do fine)

STEP ONE

Select and glue down your background paper(s).  For these cards, I used pieces of scrapbook paper.

For this card, I glued a slightly transparent piece of paper over the first layer. Don’t be afraid to mix textures and patterns!

STEP TWO

Select a 1-3 focus images for the front of your card.  For these, I used magazine clippings, stickers, and old stamps (these I added later–see Step Three).

Example 3: A photo of the Eiffel Tower from a magazine and a pretty pearl sticker.

STEP 3

Write a simple message on your card.  While you can print something out from the computer or use letters from magazines to spell your message, there’s nothing like your special handwriting!

Example 1: As you can see, I went back and added two old stamps. I thought the card could a little something extra.
