As we reach the middle of October, I think it’s fair to say that 2018 is a, uh, no-chill year. When so many distressing things are occurring around the world, it’s only natural to have moments of hopelessness or utter panic. Plus, keeping up with our own personal responsibilities—bills, meetings, emails emails emails—guarantees that most of us are up to our eyeballs, which can lead to anxiety and stress, among other mental and emotional concerns.
While there’s no quick fix to any of this, there is a simple way practice self-care throughout your day that may help ease the inner chaos just enough to help you push through–aromatherapy. While diffusing is my favorite way to enjoy the uplifting properties of essential oils in my home, I love having a trusty roll-on tucked in my purse when I need a quick whiff on-the-go.
The following are a few ready-to-use stress-relief roll-ons that will gladly travel with you anywhere you go—plus, I’ve included my favorite DIY option, which comes together in about five minutes once you’ve gathered your supplies.
Best Stress-Relief Essential Oil Roll-Ons
Vitruvi Balance Aromatherapy Roll-On
With a fresh, calming blend of peppermint, lavender, and fennel, this restorative, lightly sweet roll-on is designed to conjure a “lush weekend retreat” and serve as a “spa in your pocket.” The fuss-free blend is ideal for a fragrance (and packaging) minimalist.
Yuni Pocket Savasana
Cultivate calm, relaxed focus with this simple blend of bergamot, neroli, and sage. The folks at Yuni suggests using this oil roll-on during your yoga practice to create an olfactory memory associated with balance and groundedness. Then, reapply the fragrance throughout the day whenever you need to reset.
Aromatherapy Associates De-Stress Roller Ball
This luxe roll-on hails from Princess Diana’s favorite aromatherapy line and combines frankincense, petitgrain, wild chamomile and rosemary to briskly shoo your stress away. It’s perfect for channeling inner peace and mental clarity during hectic, whirlwind days. Store one in your office desk drawer for quick relief.
Aquarian Soul Roll-On Aromatherapy Oil-Anxiety Magic
This roll-on bottle is unique because, in addition to essential oils, it contains crystals—just in case you need all the things to help you battle stress. The featured oils include lavender and bergamot—and enjoy a magical blend of amazonite, amethyst, quartz, and hematite crystals to whisk that negative energy away.
Edens Garden Stress Relief Synergy Blend Roll-On
Designed to target and reduce anxiety, depression, and stress, this uplifting blend is a godsend when everything just feels like too much. The roll-on features a bright, citrusy bouquet of sweet orange, bergamot, patchouli, grapefruit and ylang ylang, a combination that also helps beat gloomy feelings.
Riddle Scented Oil Santal Roll-On
This blend of cardamom, sandalwood, amber, orchid, and cassis is wonderfully crisp, woodsy, bold, and even sexy. The spicy combination is at once grounding and inspiring—and a perfect alternative to more traditional relaxing blends.
DIY Option—Cool Spring Meadow
One of my favorite “getaway” blends is floral and slightly cooling. I “developed” it after hiking in Banff, Canada where the aromas of wildflowers and evergreens filled the cool, damp air. When I diffuse this blend, it instantly makes the room feel like a spring meadow with a crisp breeze.
To harness it in a roll-on, blend equal parts lavender, ylang ylang, juniper, and eucalyptus with a carrier oil of your choice. (Hint: fractionated coconut oil makes a perfect, odorless base for roll-on fragrances.) If you’re using standard 10ml roller bottles, add 15-20 drops of essential oil, and fill the rest with a carrier oil. (Hint: many glass roller-ball bottles are reusable! Use a butter knife to pop off the inner lid, and refill to your heart’s content.)
