Happy first day of spring, Dumplings! It’s time to talk spring beauty trends!
While cooler weather inspires rich tones and dazzling metallics galore, spring beauty brings its own drama, albeit a softer, fresher variety—not unlike the lively blooming of the season’s flowers. Traditionally, spring beauty is all about youthful, romantic palettes—almost as if your blush were blushing itself. I always look forward to getting gushy with spring’s pastels and rose-tinted this and that (rose gold eyeshadow is still a thing, right?). But this year, the spring beauty trends are looking a little different.
Bright, bold hues—including electric blue—add further excitement to the season known for cute classics like cherry lips (don’t worry, they’re still around—see below!). We’re looking forward to trying everything and then some.
5 Spring Beauty Trends for Spring 2018—Veganized
Colorful Eyelids
Bold blue appeared in flashes on the runways. Not for the faint of heart, this trendy hue is sure to grab attention. Brown-eyed beauties will be especially flattered by blue on their lids. Kjaer Weis is one of the most well-crafted, high-performing natural beauty brands out there. Give them a try if you haven’t already! I especially like them because once you purchase an item–whether that’s eyeshadow or mascara, you can get refills for the original case, which are less $$ (making the products more affordable in the long run) and, of course, better for the environment.

Cherry Lips
Spring beauty wouldn’t feel the same without cherry lips. Whether you prefer to wear a simple wash of color from a gloss or stain or a full-coverage long-wear lipstick, it’s hard to deny that a fun cherry lip helps us take ourselves a little less seriously. Axiology’s vegan lipsticks make a wonderful swap for your favorite conventional luxe lippie. All of Axiology’s lipsticks are formulated without parabens, sulfates, synthetic ingredients, palm oil, gluten, and GMOs.

Flawless Skin
Well, of course. Fortunately, this year’s definition of flawless skin isn’t as tedious as it was in bygone years. Notably, contouring was virtually absent from the Spring Summer 2018 runways, phew. Also gone is ultra matte, mask-like coverage. As we increasingly welcome foundation that lets skin look more like skin, why not turn to a natural, plant-based option like the foundation by 100% Pure? The brand’s 2nd Skin foundation gives you that no-makeup makeup look while improving the appearance of blemishes and hyperpigmentation.

Hair Clips
Hair accessories are back! You don’t have to wear them in a straightforward, school-girl way, however. (But I won’t judge you if you do!) A little jaunty or pinned off to the side is a fun way to rock them. My favorite thing to do is raid my stash from high school (yep, I’ve still got some of those things kicking around!) and wear them sort-of ironically. Another sustainable option is to shop vintage clips. There are so many! Check out your local thrift store.

Fresh Botanical Fragrance with a Twist
While florals are an obvious choice for spring, we like our fragrance with a little more complexity (florals + _____?) Gotta keep ’em guessing. I’ve fallen in love with two spring-appropriate natural fragrances from the brand By Rosie Jane: Rosie and Leila Lou. Rosie features layers of red and Moroccan rose, an otherworldly nude musk, and a hint of vanilla. Leila Lou is delicately flirty with sensual jasmine, sparkling pear, and fresh cut grass. Both scents are so delightful to wear; I’ve only been wearing them for a few days, but I’ve already received compliments on how nice I smell.
