Forget her widely-acknowledged hotness–Maxim’s Hottest Woman Alive 2009, PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian since like, forever–Olivia Wilde is whip-smart, down-to-earth, and genuinely, absolutely funny. In Glamour’s September issue, the 29-year-old actress gave advice to all twenty-somethings can relate to–and her refreshingly candid, intelligent voice is heads and shoulders above other young actresses of her generation. Raised in a family of renowned journalists and writers, Olivia has also been a vegetarian since age 11 and an experimental vegan for the past several years, with help of another vegan celebrity Alicia Silverstone. Here are her Do’s and Don’ts of turning 30.
“DON’T freak out about all the brilliant people who accomplished more than you by 30.” High achieving young women can suffer from feelings of anxiety about not having accomplished enough, and that includes even bona fide A-list star like Olivia. But she still thinks that “what you achieve is far less important than what kind of human you are.”
“DON’T propose to the next guy you meet just because you worry he’ll be your last chance at lifelong companionship.” So true! It’s mind boggling in your mid to late twenties with all your friends at wildly different romantic stages. I have friends who are married; married with kids; who are having one-night stands; in serious relationships; or seeking actively for “The One.” There is no “normal” age at which to settle down, and don’t compare yourself to anyone else.
“DO learn a new skill.” Olivia learned stand up paddleboarding at 29. What do you want to take up and explore? Running a marathon? Learning Italian? Ruby on Rails? Watercolor? You are only at the beginning of the best phase of your life–embrace it!
What do you think guys? I’m really trying hard not to girl-crush on her but it’s impossible. The lady is a class act–and a rare celebrity whom I’m not ashamed to say I adore. Read the full interview here.
