Is Alexa Chung your beauty crush? Love looking polished yet carefree? Then you’ll adore the no makeup makeup trend!
It’s been quite a while since I’ve worn a full face of makeup using full-coverage makeup. It used to be an everyday occurrence for me—full-coverage foundation from ear-to-ear, followed by a brightening concealer (also full-coverage), at least four shades of carefully blended eyeshadow…you get the picture.
While this look suits me best in photos (since cameras always wash me out—ugh!), it definitely doesn’t look natural or flattering on me in natural light—or the dreaded florescent lighting at work. Besides, a part of me got bored with applying layer over layer, and as my interest in skin care has grown, I’m more interested in allowing my skin to look like its pampered self ;D
Enter no makeup makeup. This isn’t exactly a new trend, but it’s certainly one worth trying if you find yourself short on time in the morning, traveling and in need of a reduced beauty arsenal, tired of overly contoured “Instagram” makeup, or simply ready for a simpler look. The following products are perfect for achieving a natural, no makeup makeup look and each pick is “minimalist” in its own way by eschewing animal ingredients and crazy long lists of ingredients! This means these make excellent choices if you’re in the market to detox your makeup bag.
Natural bee-free cream formulas are often a special find. This creamy foundation is no exception. The rich texture has a surprisingly weightless, velvety finish, so you can avoid that cake-y foundation look while still concealing redness and evening your skin tone. Apply an additional layer anywhere you need a bit of extra coverage. Set with a hydrating mist for a dewier coverage.
This best-selling palette contains a luminizer, blush, and three eye shadows in natural tones perfect for creating flattering, natural looks. The pressed powder formulas are silky and ideal for easy blending. Hint: The darker eyeshadows can double as soft-focus eyeliner–just dampen a thin brush, coat with powder, and line away!
Made with cold-pressed oils that help moisturize your skin while providing a delightfully dewy finish, this two-in-one lip and cheek tint provides a gorgeous pop of color. The tube is just the right size for cheek application. For lips, a swirl of your finger is all you need or use a lip brush for more precise application.
Pacific Stellar Gaze Length & Strength Mineral Mascara in “Stardust”
I will always have a place in my heart for intense mascara—and mascara that looks like mascara even if it’s on the spidery end of the spectrum!—but a natural mascara in a dark brown shade tends to offer a softer, less makeup-y look, especially if you’re just opting for a single layer. This mineral mascara is formulated with B vitamins and coconut oil to nourish your lashes, too!
While this makes a lovely eyeshadow, I’m actually recommending this matte powder as a no makeup makeup brow powder—simply apply with a dampened angled brush. Alima offers different shades of the Satin Matte eyeshadow, so you don’t have to use this brown–just skip the bright blue shade when it comes to your brows 😉
