Healthy Snacks: Hydrating Cucumber Pear Smoothie

Hydrating Cucumber Pear Smoothie

Just because it’s fall doesn’t mean you should slack off on hydration! In fact, cold, dry air of fall can wreak havoc on your skin and hair (not to mention general health and immune system) if you don’t drink enough water. Lately I’ve been noticing that my skin is feeling dryer than usual and that I’m *parched* after yoga class, which means I should not only step up on skincare, but also stay better hydrated.

Enter this super hydrating smoothie with cucumber, pear, and coconut water. Cucumber (an ingredient favored by Korean beauties ;)) has a pH almost identical to your skin, which is why it makes a great face mask. It’s made of 95% water and is rich in vitamin C. Turned into a smoothie, this super-hydrator promotes detoxification, relieves bloating and inflammation. It’s also a great source of potassium, an important electrolyte especially if you sweat a lot. Pears, on the other hand, contain a ton of healthy flavonoids, and the best way to get most antioxidant benefits from them is to eat both the skin and the pulp. Coconut water provides quickly-absorbing hydration with potassium, plus a dose of sweetness.

Hydrating Cucumber Pear Smoothie

2 small Kirby cucumbers, scrubbed well and roughly peeled

2 small to medium pears, scrubbed well, quarters and cored

1/2 banana

8 oz raw coconut water

8 oz non dairy milk

couple of ice cubes

Scrub the vegetables clean! The peels have as much or more nutrients than the flesh so try to retain as much as possible while removing any bruised bits. Blend everything together and enjoy!
