Wednesday Cafe: Easy "Pup"kin Gravy

October 23, 2013

Since Halloween is right around the corner and I am sure some of you are baking up your favorite fall veggie dishes, why not share the wealth with your pups? I cooked up an amazing “gravy” for our furry best friends. Top their food with this easy recipe or let them have it for dessert. They deserve it, it must be torture to smell all of the delicious things you’ve been cooking ! Also, pumpkin has some pretty neat benefits for pups:

-great source of fiber (an excellent digestive system helper for kitties, too)

-great source of healthy oils for the skin and coat

-great natural food additive for the picky eater

2 tbsp. Earth Balance vegan margarine
1 tsp. vegetable oil
1 tsp. raw sugar granules
1 cup unsweetened pumpkin puree (canned is fine as long as it is NOT pie filling)
1 tsp. ground cinnamon

Heat Earth Balance and oil on low in pan until the pan is coated

Add sugar and mix with a wooden spoon until it covers the bottom of the pan and begins to brown

Raise heat to medium and add pumpkin, mix thoroughly with wooden spoon and fold into sugar/margarine mix

Sprinkle cinnamon into mix and lower heat to the lowest setting

Let simmer until small bubbles start to form and remove from heat and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you use

** Do not use more than a tsp. at a time in your dog’s food. It is dangerous to drastically change their diet.**

 Happy Wednesday!
