There are so many incredible options for vegans now when it comes to animal product alternatives, but 100% vegan eateries are also popping up left and right! Vegans don’t just want food that is amazing “vegan food”—they want amazing food. Period. Thanks to hundreds of all-vegan eateries around the country, the plant-based community is getting just that. Here is the best vegan restaurant in every state in the USA:

Alabama: Underground VeganBirmingham– The perfect spot for Southern favorites, here you can feast on vegan shrimp po’boys and other deliciously greasy fare! This place is ideal for vegans who want a taste of classically Southern favorites (and who have a soft spot for seafood, but don’t want to harm oceanic beings or the sea).

This beloved restaurant is where you can grab succulent birria tacos, queso fundido, ceviche, tacos with nopales and oyster mushrooms, enchiladas asada, jackfruit tamales, strawberry tres leches cake, and much more! Call in advance, as this sustainable eatery makes their dishes to order so as to not waste ingredients, and wait times can be well over an hour.

New Mexico: Plantita Vegan BakerySanta Fe- This spot is perfect for vegan pastries and local classics. Expect huge helpings of creations like green chili bagels with hatch coconut cream cheese, cornbread, Mexican hot chocolate cookies, biscuits and gravy, empanadas, and apple hand pies!

New York: Avant GardenNew York City- Located in East Village, this is the most romantic spot in the city for delicious dishes made with the highest quality of ingredients. Their hen of the woods, celery root, avocado dishes are especially beautiful.

North Carolina: PlantAsheville- Plant might be the best restaurant on the east coast, and it happens to be 100% vegan. Their food is locally sourced, organic, wholesome, and ridiculously delicious. The cheese plate is as stunning as it is flavorful, with the foraged flowers, black garlic oil, and pickled vegetables being the perfect accents to the centerpieces cheeses. The lasagna cruda, applewood smoked mushroom, and masala uttapam are also incredible.

North Dakota: Wild Terra CiderFargo- Currently, there aren’t any 100% vegan eateries in the state (the first one opened in 2016 and went out of business during the pandemic), but Wild Terra Cider is a great cider bar to check out. Their drinks are all vegan, and this spot is highly beloved among locals. Not only that, but they serve entirely vegan snacks like flatbreads and hummus platters! If you’re wanting to visit somewhere entirely vegan in the state, this is your best bet.

Ohio: Harmony Plant FareCincinnati- This is the top rated vegan eatery in the entire state of Ohio, and for good reason. Their award winning sandwiches are flavorful, succulent, and dripping with homemade sauces. Come here for incredible vegan turkey havarti, grilled cheese, and Italian sandwiches!

Oklahoma: The BeetBoxOklahoma City and Tulsa- The Beet Box is a female- and black-owned vegan food truck (the owners are both under 25 as well!), and it’s won some serious awards. Veg News named their vegan chicken sandwich one of the best sandwiches in America, and their fan base is huge! Their goal is to make vegan alternatives that don’t just replace their animal-based counterparts, but taste better than them. Their menu includes every possible kind of chicken sandwich, lobster rolls, shrimp tacos, cookies, and carrot cake!

Oregon: Farm SpiritPortland- Oregon may be the unofficial vegan capital of the country due to its number of entirely vegan eateries, but Farm Spirit really stands out. Hosting monthly dinner parties, this farm-to-table restaurant is seasonal, upscale, and absolutely stunning. Expect to treat your palate to flavors of the Pacific Northwest with masterpieces like warm nettle cake, abenaki corn with cherries and olive oil ice cream, zucchini ceviche, and sea beans.

Pennsylvania: VedgePhiladelphia- Pennsylvania is one of the most vegan-friendly states in the U.S.A., and Vedge is time and time again called out for its impeccable creations. This high class dining destination features a seasonal menu, offering customers the chance to taste the local fare. Enjoy dishes like brandywine tomato tartare, smoked portobella carpaccio, rutabaga fondue, and grilled gold bar squash. The restaurant prides itself in highlighting vegetables rather than processed foods that are often used to replace meat. Here in this brick mansion, vegetables are allowed to show off.

South Dakota: Sanaa’s Gourmet MediterraneanSioux Falls- There is not even a vegan coffee shop in the entire state, but Sanaa’s Gourmet Mediterranean is an eatery that features an entirely vegan soup menu, a separate vegan entree menu, and all of their spread are vegan as well. The chef and owner is a celebrity chef, and has been featured on Beat Bobby Flay! Her caramelized sweet potato dish is especially good according to regulars.

Tennessee: Vege-liciousNashville- Located in the heart of the foodie-paradise city of Nashville, Vege-licious is the ultimate spot for soul food…it just happens to be entirely vegan. Black-owned and expertly operated, expect incredible entrees like hot fried chicken, mac and cheese platters, BBQ chicken burgers, and just about every kind of pancake!

Texas: Vegan NomAustin- With raving reviews from locals and tourists alike, this food truck unites both omnivores and vegans with their famously good food. Their buffalo chicken taco (aptly named, “The Birdie Sanders”), pineapple al pastor tacos, grilled avocado tacos, and chorizo tacos are all beloved, but they are most famous for their vegan fish tacos. Breaded lemon pepper “fish,” cabbage, avocado, crema, and a lime wedge make this taco extraordinarily flavorful.

Vermont: Knead BakeryBurlington- This vegan bakery is very popular among locals thanks to their fresh ingredients and incredible bread made in-house. Come here for challah french toast, linzer cookies, breakfast sandwiches, banana bread, grilled cheeses, sugar cookies, Caprese toasts, muffins, salads, and many more wholesome goodies!

Virginia: Hang SpaceRichmond- This city eatery may look understated on the outside, but their food is the highest rated vegan food in the state! This is the best spot for vegans to get a taste of Virginian soul food, with menu items like lemon bundt cakes, chicken sandwiches, loaded tater tots, and more.

Washington: Harvest BeatSeattle- The Pacific Northwest is home to thriving plants and berries, cherries, and vineyards. Harvest Beat is a five star restaurant in Seattle that honors that with their tasting menu. With a menu that honors the local seasons and only uses ingredients from nearby, this is the perfect place to understand Washington a little better…through food. Their current five course menu includes masterful concoctions like grilled summer squash lemongrass ginger bisque topped with sautéed sugar snap peas and lime leaf dust, sesame marinated beet bell pepper poke with cashew saffron crema, and tamari yuzu marinated hijiki. They compost, their restaurant is painted with eco paint and built with only sustainable materials, all napkins are hand-sewn, and their coffee is walked to them in glass containers every day. This eatery is Washington at its most pure.

West Virginia: The Beehive CafeBerkeley Springs- Located in the adorable town of Berkeley Springs, this brick cafe has everything you could want as far as comforting, nostalgic food goes- and it’s all vegan. Their menu changes often, featuring wholesome meals like broccoli cheese soup, chicken salad sandwiches, chili mac and cheese, caesar salads, cheesy grits, and lots of pastries!

Wisconsin: Wicked Willow, Stevens Point- Famous for their award winning corn chowder, this entirely vegan cafe is heaven for those wanting a taste of locally sourced ingredients and flavors. Their menu is huge, and it includes items like build your own spring rolls, queso platters, gyro sandwiches, banana pancakes, cinnamon rolls, and even chicken bacon ranch mac and cheese!

Wyoming: Cultivate Cafe, Jackson Hole- There isn’t an entirely vegan restaurant in the state, but Cultivate Cafe’s menu is entirely vegan unless customers choose to add animal products to their dish (which is an up-charge). It’s highly rated, and every dish is organic, locally and/or sustainably sourced, rustic, and sugar free. Their yarrow juice, open-face chickpea scramble sandwich, house-baked bread, oyster mushroom tacos, and vegan chili all nod to the local flavors, deliciously.
