Dream Of Summer Escape With These Sustainable Resort Wear

June 10, 2021

Are you just about ready to put up your OOO email and head out for an adventure, dumplings? I reached that point a while ago, let’s just say. Yesterday, I read in the news that France has *just* opened its doors to U.S. travelers starting June 9, 2021. (Merci, dieu!) Last night, I promptly dreamed that I went back to Paris, and this morning I woke up swearing it shall happen as soon as I can manage it.

The pandemic has illuminated how much we can take away from our lives and still survive. If we have a stable shelter, food, clean water, a job, friends and family, we have much to be grateful for. But as humans, we are also forward-looking creatures. And I can’t deny that, if struggles built my character (Teflon-strong!), then dreamy travels gave me something to remember. You don’t necessarily look back on life as a series of struggles and accomplishments—you hold on to the pieces of joy. You grow in happiness just as you grow in the trials and tribulations—and the two growths are not the same. You need joy for a particular kind of maturing.

This is all to say I can’t wait ’til I go back to France (and other countries). Here’s a new, sustainable resortwear wardrobe that I’m dreaming about.

Florence linen shorts by Aura, handmade in Bali, $120. Matching Roma top, $105

I love an alternative to the salty, so American denim cut-offs. Don’t get me wrong, they are trusty—but a linen short suit is oh so refined without costing any extra effort. In fact, I guarantee you this is more comfy than denim.

Milan linen top, $120, matching Monaco pants, $165

How cute is this halter wrap top? This whole ensemble cinches in the right places while letting breeze in. I’m all about comfort while still being sexy—especially as I shed my pandemic layers like a bear emerging from its hidey hole.

Mara Hoffman Carla Bikini top, $50 $160,  matching Zoa Bikini Bottom, $50 $145

Every summer, I pretty much live in my Mara Hoffman pieces, including recycled polyester swimsuits. I love the adjustable tie in the front and the vibrant print—because sometimes you just get tired of solids, and summer 2021 will be the time to let it all go and have a party!

Reformation Brigitte linen dress, $178

This color. It’s everything. I love how it cinches, but in expandable linen (because I plan on eating, thankyouverymuch). It holds you in just by its structure, so say adieu to that uncomfortable bra. (Who said good-bye forever to their bras during the pandemic? Just me?) It’s easy enough to wear to the beach, but elevated enough for dinners and parties.

Visor, handwoven in Bali by Bali Eco Ethical Shop on Etsy, $14

I bought my favorite straw-woven crossbody bag from Bali Eco Ethical Shop last year, and have gotten so many compliments. So I think this visor is a must—it’s just what I need to protect my sensitive skin, while looking chic and sporty. It’s bike-friendly, too.

Top handle woven bag by Bali Eco Ethical Shop on Etsy, $59

From the same shop: they don’t have the same round crossbody model anymore, but this top-handle style is so very 2021. I love the clasp detail at the top.

What will be in your suitcase?
