I used to make a peanut butter and banana shake every morning. If you’d told me to add a heaping spoonful of tahini into my blender, I probably would have wrinkled my nose in disgust. Thank goodness I decided to branch out because tahini and dates go together like peanut butter and jelly. The natural candied sweetness of the dates pairs perfectly with the tangy tahini.
I don’t crave shakes in the winter like I do in the summer, but I refer to this as a “winter shake” because it has rich creaminess from the tahini and comforting flavors that are totally appropriate to drink in the chilly air–even if it’s next to your space heater!
If you’re looking for something a little different to slurp up in the mornings, this shake is for you! This simple tahini date shake is the perfect breakfast, snack, or dessert! It’s refined sugar-free and has all the healthy fats, protein, and carbs you need to take on your busy day.
High Protein Tahini Date Shake
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup steamed and frozen cauliflower (or sub ice)
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 scoop vanilla/chocolate protein powder (optional)
- 1 teaspoon hemp hearts
- pinch cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon raw tahini
- 1-2 pitted dates
Combine all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until well incorporated.
Serve sprinkled with hemp hearts.
