The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World by Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu and Douglas Carlton Abrams

What it’s about:

The Book of Joy follows the conversations and musings of the Desmond Tutu and the His Holiness the Dalai Lama. For seven days the two leaders answer questions prepared by an interviewer while staying at the Dalai Lama’s home in India. This is all recorded by Douglas Abrams, Desmond Tutu’s editor. This book is filled with little gems of how to increase joy in your life, and defining what joy means to you versus adopting other people’s versions of happiness. The eight pillars provided listed in each chapter for keeping joy in your life are simple, yet often overlooked.

Why it’s inspirational:

This book gets you out of the matrix and into finding what really matters. In this time of quarantine, this is the perfect book to help you rediscover those little joys in your life. It is a feel-good read that creates a calm, stress-free environment. The lives of both of these leaders are inspiring and so is their lifelong friendship. It is truly a book for everyone to read on their journey of self-discovery.

Why it’s inspirational:

This is a must-read for all chronic procrastinators. The author delivers tough love in a sandwiched package where he gives some medicine with a spoonful of sugar to help it go down. In the different anecdotes that are present in each chapter, there is going to be at least one person whom you will find yourself cheering on. All of the people come from different walks of life and flourish in different circumstances, yet they have all found gratitude in where they are and are confident in where they are going. Everything is Figureoutable by Marie Forleo

What it’s about:

Marie details how to solve a variety of issues by talking about her life and revealing step by step how she got to where she is today. Honestly, this book is one of my ultimate favorites. It is an easy read and I love how there are sprinkles of humor throughout the entire book.
