Vegan Dessert Recipes: Maple Ginger Poached Pears

November 8, 2016
Ever since I started making more recipes for Peaceful Dumpling, I've challenged myself to try new foods and different cooking techniques. The latter is a more formidable challenge, and I'm constantly battling the inner voice that tells me, "just make another salad."
One such intimidating cooking project is poaching. Before I was vegan, I never made (or ate) poached eggs, but the name itself was enough to scare me into ordering a plate of hashbrowns instead. So poaching anything--animal-derived or otherwise--has not been something I've wanted to undertake. But this weekend, I decided to do some research, and what I found out is that poaching is nothing more than simmering something with sugar and spices over the stove top. So easy and so beautiful.
These maple ginger poached pears would make a beautiful presentation on your holiday table this year, perhaps served with some non-dairy vanilla ice cream and nuts. I love pies and crumbles as much as the next person, but there's something so elegant and minimalist about serving poached fruit as dessert.
