3 Must-Listen Personal Development Podcasts To Close Out 2020 & Begin 2021 Fresh

November 20, 2020

During the quarantine, I have been knee-deep into podcasts. Listening to podcasts has been one of my favorite discoveries yet. I hope this article will help you find one of your favorites too!

The Lavendaire Lifestyle

I have been a long-time fan of Aileen Xu’s Lavendaire YouTube channel since the beginning. I was over the moon when I discovered that the personal development guru had a podcast and that they featured many people that I also admired. If you are looking for a podcast to listen to in the morning to give you that extra zip, this podcast is it. Aileen has a calm, collected voice that is relaxing for an early morning commute or easy listening. The guests that she has on there are also quite varied, with topics ranging from self-healing to human design. Depending on what topic you are interested in, there is a wide range of audio content to choose from. There are even some guests that also have podcasts on streaming platforms. I have found many other podcasts from listening to this one as well as some not yet discovered content creators.

Some of my favorites include: Episode #158: Don’t Keep Your Day Job with Cathy Heller, Episode #161: Create Your Own Calm with Meera Lee Patel, Episode #87: Craft a Life You Love with Amy Tan, and Episode #48: Stop Being a People-Pleaser with Confidence with Amy E. Smith.

Creative Processing with Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Actor and creator Joseph Gordon-Levitt is another one of my favorite people. He is committed to helping others by sharing in their creativity with HitRecord, a website devoted to helping others create. This podcast brings a spotlight to many creators and how they are able to do what they do best. His guests range from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to Jessica Alba. Although this podcast was intended to be a ten-episode series, I was pleasantly surprised that more episodes were added near the beginning of this year. Each guest brings their own vibe to the conversation which adds to a unique type of podcast. With this podcast, I have often found out something new that I did not know before about a few well-known guests. This podcast is full of surprises.

A few of my favorite episodes include: Originality & Imitation with the Filmmaker Rian Johnson, Clouds & Pipes with the Sonic Songstress Yuki Honda, Collaboration & Friendship with actor and writers Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg, and Pushing Boundaries & Yourself with the multi-talented Founder of The Honest Company, Jessica Alba.

The Marie Forleo Podcast

Marie Forleo is a thought leader, goal crusher, and an awesome person all around. After discovering her blog and YouTube channel, it was hard not to binge watch all of her videos related to topics such as motivation, success, and obtaining your personal happiness. The podcast that she hosts offers that same amount of addictiveness. Once you listen to one episode, it will be difficult to listen to just one. I find it best to listen to Marie when I am focusing on an activity that I know is going to take a lot of time to complete. Listening to Marie and her many guests help me get in the mood for work as well as gives a boost of motivation. Another one of my favorite aspects of her podcast is call-ins. Although she has accomplished so much, she feels accessible and relatable. If you have the time or find more interest in Marie, I urge you to check out her latest book: Everything is Figureoutable.

Some of my favorite episodes include: Episode #229 Seth Godin on Creativity, Generosity, and The Practice, Episode #162 Brené Brown on How To Be Your Most Brave and Courageous Self, Episode #163 How To Be Ambitious Without Stressing Out, and Episode #62 How to Find Your Voice and Unleash Your Best Work with Todd Henry.

Discover Your Favorite Podcasts

Now that you know more about these three podcasts I have been listening this year, I hope you find one that you like. Listening to podcasts is a great way to learn new things, and it’s a habit that I will be keeping for years to come. With more and more podcasts making their premiere every single day, there is a podcast for everyone about just about anything. Whether you decide to stick to one of these or find your own, I encourage you to go out and explore the world of podcasts.
