Molly Sims’ Totally Doable Green Beauty Secrets For Anti-Aging
Molly Sims is one of the most recognizable supermodels. With her sunny blonde hair and southern charm, this uber babe is a beauty icon for many. Although models are exposed to all of the finest products and treatments, Sims swears by a few simple, nourishing tricks to keep her skin looking amazing. The combo of treatments and rituals she shares below have the combined effect of increasing cell turnover, improving skin clarity, fighting inflammation, and improving facial muscle tone. Read on for Molly Sims’ best beauty secrets 🙂
1. Double exfoliation results in the softest skin!
“Dry brushing is undoubtedly the least expensive DIY spa treatment on the market. Not only is it effective at shedding dry skin, but it also boosts internal circulation,” Sims told Mind Body Green. She recommends dry brushing when our skin is at its driest to make the most of this effective treatment.
Dry brushing is just the first stage of Sims’ whole-body exfoliation: “After dry brushing, I take a shower and shed any excess dry skin by exfoliating with a DIY sugar scrub. Afterward, my skin feels so smooth and soft. I get the effects of an entire spa treatment in a 15-minute process!” A DIY coffee scrub is also a lovely option!
Exfoliation is best followed by a moisturizer to help seal in moisture from the shower and prevent further dryness. “Once my skin is rid of all the grit and grime, it’s critical to top it with a moisturizer,” Sims says. The model likes to keep her moisturizing routine simple, however.
“Rather than buy an expensive bottle of lotion infused with avocado oil, I prefer to opt for the real stuff. Any local health food and many mainstream grocery stores carry organic avocado oil these days. It contains vitamins A and E, making it a great natural moisturizer. It’s also packed with sterolins, a natural steroid said to be effective at boosting collagen and reducing age spots.”
The miracle oil isn’t just for skin! “You can use even use it as a hair serum. This stuff is basically the Windex of oils and I keep a bottle on me at all times.”
2. Face yoga keeps facial muscles toned and taught.
Just like yoga tones the body, facial yoga helps keep the muscles in the face (there are 57 of them!) strong and youthful—and Sims is a big fan.
“Facial yoga is designed to stimulate collagen, increase blood circulation, and provide more oxygen which gives you that supple, tighter-looking skin,” she says on her blog. “To put it simply, it’s a non-invasive way to prevent or treat fine lines, sagging, and wrinkles with no downtime. All you need is 20 minutes a day, six times a week, and patience.”
“I wish I would have known about it in my twenties! You better believe I would have taken full advantage.”
Also like regular yoga, facial yoga has a few do-and-don’ts in place to make sure you’re getting the most from your exercise. By avoiding a few skin-irritating movements, you can safely practice proper face yoga.
3. Your skin is a reflection of what you put into your body.
When it comes to healthy, glowing skin, Sims knows the key lies beyond using the right moisturizer. Rather, a great deal of our skin’s health has to do with what we eat. “I eat all the antioxidants, like goji berries, and I love flax seed,” Sims told Byrdie. “The best thing I do is adding a big spoonful of Dr. Schulze’s Super Food to my smoothies. It’s great for your skin.” This supplement is packed with various algae (anti-inflammatory!), wheat grass, rose hips, and much more.
She also makes sure to drink plenty of water—even if she has to trick herself into it. “I know it sounds simple, but hydration is a key component to maintaining a young, radiant, and youthful complexion. I’ll be honest, I’ve never been one of those people that crave water. So I do everything I can to make it as appealing as possible. Try treating it like a cocktail. Muddle some cucumbers, squeeze in a bit of lemon, or throw in a few mint leaves — do whatever you can to make it feel like a special treat. Not only will it taste better, but it’s also a great metabolic booster.”
She also swears by drinking her water out of fancy glasses and sipping from a stainless steel straw. Whatever works!
Treat yourself to a simple, hydrating mocktail—a cucumber mule! It includes fresh lime, ginger, and cucumber.
