Using Chakra Oils for Meditation and Beauty

April 17, 2014

It’s no secret that we’re big on yoga and meditation here at Peaceful Dumpling. The wonderful thing about yoga and meditation is that you can take the practice into areas that you need to work on in your life. Recently, for instance, I’ve been practicing a yoga sequence for cultivating creativity; we’ve also talked about calming poses, or core-strengthening yoga for grounding and awareness.

With more focused practice, it becomes vital to bring awareness to your chakras with both breath and asanas. Lately I’ve also begun using essential oils to deepen this awareness of my energy points.

At the beginning of your meditation practice, you can spray a bit of peppermint oil or orange oil diffused with water, for refreshing atmosphere. Both peppermint and orange aid the balancing of your solar plexus (third chakra).

Better savasana: Before you lie down, rub a drop of lavender oil onto your temples and feet for ultimate relaxation. Lavender, with its purple hue and calm scent, is associated with the Seventh Chakra.

For even more special attention to the chakras, I use special blends like Enlightening Crown—one of Aura Cacia’s Organic Chakra Balancing Aromatherapy Roll-Ons.

Enlightening Crown – Organic Chakra Balancing Aromatherapy Roll-On by Aura Cacia

As you probably guessed, Enlightening Crown is formulated to help bring balance to your Seventh Chakra: Sahasrara, the seat of divine self-knowledge located around the crown of your head. An individual with a balanced sahasrara possess a clear sense of their purpose in life and likely feels connected to a higher power or the Universe. In this state of balance, we understand that we have the power to bring beautiful change to our lives while accepting that we don’t have control over everything.

When our seventh chakra is balanced, we feel a divine connection to the universe. We sometimes sense the seventh chakra during meditation or a walk outdoors.

Sounds pretty lovely to me. Of course, I wouldn’t be a very good beauty editor if I didn’t also share the cosmetic applications of this multi-purpose roll-on oil. Here’s a breakdown of this balancing blend:

To start, Enlightening Crown can be used as a perfume, pure and simple.  Most of my perfume these days is all-natural—no parabens, phthalates, or synthetic fragrances. While I originally turned to natural perfume to avoid these unfortunate hormone disrupters, I quickly fell in love with the rich offerings of essential oils. You’d be amazed at how “chemical” conventional fragrance smells after switching to the natural stuff.

This chakra oil has now joined my ever-growing collection of healthy fragrances. Small enough to be packed in an evening clutch, this blend of vanilla, lavender, frankincense, and neroli makes for a complex, warmly feminine perfume.  With light floral and citrus notes, Enlightening Crown is smooth, sweet, and—dare I say it—really sexy.

Makeup note: Combines well with soft pink lips and smoky eyes.

Skin Care Oil

It’s hard to feel very enlightened when you’re obsessing over the latest spot on your face (guilty). The essential oils in Enlightening Crown can serve as skin-balancing heroes, however—here’s a quick look at its skin-boosting ingredients:

Lavender: a lovely oil for all skin-types. I often see lavender listed in my natural, acne-fighting products—and it’s no wonder—lavender can balance sebum production, fight bacteria, and reduce scarring.

Vanilla: a gentle, antioxidant-rich emollient that helps repair skin damage.

Neroli: an antimicrobial citrus wonder oil packed with free-radical fighting Vitamin C. Helps restore glow.

Frankincense: a anti-inflammatory oil beloved since ancient times that aids in restoring health to skin cells.

Use as spot treatment on problem areas or as an all-over night serum.

The blend of vanilla, neroli, frankincense, and lavender is at once calming, stimulating, and sensualizing.  It conjures a relaxed, warm energy that enhances your mood and refreshes your mind.

I don’t know if I’ll ever reach true enlightenment, but I feel best when I’m excited for my life—but not in any rush.  It’s similar to the feeling of sitting outside on a beautiful, sunny spring day—you inhale the richness of the fragrant flowers, the peacefulness of the breeze, and radiance of the sun—and you’re content to just be. That’s kind of how I would describe the aromatherapy of Enlightening Crown, but that’s just me—every spirit has a unique happy place.

Dab onto pulse points and breathe deeply.
