In the virtual offices at PD, a major case of royal wedding fever is spreading. We can’t help ourselves from speculating about Meghan Markle’s dress and the flowers—all while dreaming about that lemon and elderflower cake.
To channel our enthusiasm until the big day, we’ve put together this very scientific analysis of Meghan Markle’s everyday signature makeup look. Her go-to makeup is achievable and likely to be flattering (with a few adjustments) for several skin tones as it relies on natural and earthy hues.
Without further ado, let’s look at Meghan Markle’s makeup before she says “I do!”
Meghan Markle’s Signature Everyday Makeup Look
As Meghan Markle’s makeup artist has explained, the foundation of Markle’s look is “sun-kissed complexion, soft smoky eyes in bronzy, earthy tones and soft nude pink/coral lips.” Let’s do this!
Dewy, light-medium coverage base.
Meghan Markle prefers to allow her natural freckles to show. If you’d like to blur imperfections but still allow your skin to look like skin, use Alima Pure Liquid Silk Foundation. It applies like a moisturizer and coverage is buildable.
Cream blush.
Markle’s blush is usually somewhat warm—but if you have very cool skin, you may want to stick with a cool-toned blush. The *main* takeaway to massage a cream blush that’s about 2 shades deeper than your overall skin tone into the apples of your cheeks, for a youthful, natural glow. *But* instead of focusing on a circular shape on top of the apples, which can look a bit childlike, Markle goes for a more sophisticated, ladylike look by really working the blush underneath the hollow. Try 100% Pure Pot Rouge Cream Blush for a winsome flush.
Enchanted illumination.
Markle’s cheeks are often highlighted with a hint of shimmer. Apply Noto Highlighter Stick to the top of the apples of your cheeks and along your cheekbones. If you look closely at this photo, you can also see highlighter along the top of her nose.
Full brows.
Full, shiny brows are a sign of health and youth (says the beauty editor with hopelessly sparse brows!). Amplify your brows with a brow cream like Pacifica Stunning Brows. Meghan-like brows are lightly arched but overall, rather straight and not overly statement-y. It’s all about looking balanced and clean in relation to her overall face!
Soft smoky eyes in earth tones.
This may just be the best part of Markle’s routine. Her brownish smoky eyes make her already large eyes look even larger. The beauty of a smoky eye is that it has that effect on most eyes! In all Meghan’s photos, she creates a lot of depth by blending a dark brown shadow between her eye line and the crease. The trick is to concentrate the color on the outer third of the eyelid as too much darkness on the inner corners of the eyes may make the eyes look smaller. This Lily Lolo Pure Indulgence Eye Palette is perfect for an earthy smoky look. Finally, finish off with the lightest color on the inner corner of the eyes, as Meghan does in all her photos. (See photo #2 for a close-up).
Define your eyes.
The secret to taking Markle’s earthy look to the level of glam, jet-setting princess-to-be is to define your upper eyelid with liquid liner. We like Jane Iredale Liquid Liner. Alternatively, Meghan’s somewhat softer looks are likely created with a smudgeable pencil liner. Try Jillian Dempsey Natural Kohl Eyeliner. Meghan likes a more round, wide-open look with the focus in the middle of the eyes and *not* over-extended beyond the outer corners. (Don’t forget to apply a bit to your lower lash line as well!)
Rock some doe lashes.
Meghan’s signature look is all about eyelashes. Apparently, Meghan Markle amps up her lashes with RevitaLash. Start with an eyelash curler (Shu Uemura is her favorite), focusing on lifting right near the roots, since her lashes have a dramatic curl right near the lash line for a wide open look and then becomes more or less straight as it goes on (and on and on). (See photo #2 from the top). Use a volumizing mascara to wiggle the wand from roots to tip, preserving the precious curl/lift. Then coat the lower lashes as well, with a focus on the middle of the eyes for a doe-eyed effect. (Seriously, nothing makes us want to put mascara on lower lashes than looking at Meghan). Try Lily Lolo Mascara for serious volume!
Polish it all off with a pretty, warm pink lip!
Markle’s lips are just the right color to pull together her entire sun-kissed look. If you look at her photos carefully (as we have, ahem) you can see that she lines her lips very subtly with a nude-toned lipliner that’s closer to her actual skin tone (earthy, beige-y) than her lipstick (rose, pink). Genius!! Who could’ve thought this is the way not to have to buy multiple lip liners to match your lipsticks?! After you line with a lip liner that matches your tone, try a warm-toned pink lipstick with a semi-matte/satin finish. This Twist N’ Pout by Red Apple Lipsticks comes close and the formula is creamy and moisturizing.
