Cord Cutting: Stop People From Your Past From Physically And Emotionally Draining You

November 17, 2021

We all have energetic cords connecting us to people in our lives and even by passers. Every interaction is an energy exchange, and that process creates a bond between our energetic fields. A cord is formed and is then able to transfer feelings, emotions, mood, thoughts, information, and even experiences.

Basically, you can be dealing and struggling with something that is not even yours in the first place. Sometimes it is people and energies that you really don’t want to be connected to and be receiving on a regular basis. These bonds can be stealing your power, draining you on an emotional, physical, and spiritual level. Cords can even attach you to energies, such as an addiction or memory. Good news are, all these can be cut!

cord cutting

Cord cutting is a little ritual you can do on your own, a simple practice that will help you remove the energetic cords that bind you to people you have interacted with and especially have been close with. Cord cutting is necessary with people who are abusive, have ill intentions or attitudes toward you. Or it could simply be that those connections are no longer benefitting you and are no longer your vibrational match, such as old friends or lovers.

Here’s how you can restore the sovereignty of your energetic field, and do so on a regular basis.

How to identify these cords?

The closer the person is or has been to you, or the more you interact or used to interact, the stronger the connection. In order to identify which cords can be affecting you negatively, think of any people from your past or present that make you feel frustrated, annoyed, down, upset or such. It will most likely be people that you feel some from of resentment towards. When we are free from an influence of another we can think of them with no emotions attached.

Signs of unwanted energetic cords connected to you can be weird thoughts and emotions coming out of nowhere, feeling weak, and even sickness and mood swings. It can feel like it is not yours in the first place, but often we also perceive these external energies as our own.

We can form energetic cords with our friends and family, but also colleagues, any people we see on a regular basis, and even those we have just crossed paths with once. These people can be receiving your positive flow of energy and power partially (thus draining your own supply), while returning to you their trauma, pain, struggles, anger, hate, and other vibrations that do not benefit you. Here is how to put an end to this.

Cord cutting meditation

Sit relaxed, close your eyes, and connect to your breath. Visualize the person of interest right in front of you, see their face. Sometimes I also do it with a collective image of several individuals or, for instance, everyone I have come across that day, week, month. Observe the cords connecting you to them. Where do you see them? Your head, torso, hands, heart? See these cords and try to see them with no resentment, judgement, or fear. It is natural for us to connect to each other. Be grateful for acknowledging these cords now and being about to break free from them.

Thank this person (or people) for the connection you had, for all the lessons, wisdom, and experiences you have taken out of these interactions, for how it has helped you expand. Thank the connection itself. If you can’t thank the person, thank the strength and power you have gained through this. Maybe you have only learned how you wish to act differently, which is also valuable.

Next step is putting your fingers together as scissors, and cutting all these cords. Cut them with love, compassion, and gratitude. Feel gratitude for releasing yourself from what no longer serves you. Cut these cords all around you. Then allow your heart to be filled with gratitude for this process and welcome the energy of Source (God, Spirit) into your body. Request the Source to return all the energy you have been exchanging with that individual(s) to the host. Request the Source to replenish anything you have been reliant upon in that connection. Request that energy to now flow into you directly from Source. You are not missing out on anything cutting these cords.

After your cord cutting

That was it. A good idea after this meditation is drinking a lot of water and taking a bath with Epsom salt, to support your body during its detox and release processes. I don’t have a bathtub so I frequently take foot baths. Repeat this meditation when needed. A great idea is also doing a simpler version right before bed. Send all the energy you have exchanged with different people that day back to them, and return your own energy back within. You can say it out loud or simply visualize it: “I am returning any energy exchange with me today back to its owner. I call back in all the energy that has leaked from my energetic field.”

Why we need to have cords attached

To finish up this article let’s remember that cords are great. When we are connected to the ones we love, appreciate and truly enjoy having in our lives, we exchange with them our joy, success, health, strength, love and positive experiences. That is why it is so easy for us to send love to each other on the regular. So whenever you think of someone you wish good things to, send them love, send them prosperity. When you are feeling very happy, send that happiness to your loved ones. They will receive it. They are, even unintentionally, also sending miracles, blessings, and beautiful things your way.
