Have you noticed a certain hue has taken over natural skincare? While most skincare products seem to have a neutral color, those infused with blue tansy essential oil are unapologetically deep, sapphire blue.

Eden’s Garden Blue Tansy Essential Oil

Blue tansy is a member of the chamomile family (and shouldn’t be confused with tansy, which is poisonous). Blue tansy’s gorgeous color comes from chamazulene, a compound that presents itself when the blue tansy flower goes through the steam distillation process. Blue tansy essential oil has a calming, lightly herbal fragrance with the delicate nuance of a fine wine.

In aromatherapy, blue tansy is used to soothe the spirits: “There are many aromatherapy benefits with blue tansy essential oil as it has a warm, delicious herby aroma and is really good for calming the mind and emotions and soothing anxiety or stressful thoughts,” herbalist Jessa Blades explains.

When it comes to topical uses, blue tansy offers impressive benefits. When properly diluted with carrier ingredients, blue tansy may help soothe dry, itchy, and inflamed skin, reduce redness, calm eczema, and may also be suitable for congested, windburned, and bug-bitten skin. It’s also antibacterial and antifungal. Finally, its antioxidant content makes it a lovely choice for mature skin.

Esthetician Britta Plug, who’s well-known for her all-natural facials, concurs that blue tansy can serve as a calming treatment for skin in distress. ”I love how the blues have steadily been gaining popularity over the last few years,” she stated. “They tend to be very calming and anti-inflammatory, which is just what so many of my clients need. Several women I see have skin that is freaked out or broken out, often from stress, environment, or overuse of prescription topicals. The blues like blue tansy and blue yarrow are great ingredients to help guide the skin back to homeostasis.”
