Spring Style: Floral Hair Accessories

Spring Style: Floral Hair Accessories - Peaceful Dumpling

On your clothes and in your hair–this spring, flowers are blooming every where. Here are a few ways to incorporate the blossoming trend with Floral Hair Accessories.

Floral hair accessories are no longer just for weddings and formal events. Worn more casually with denim cutoffs or a delicate spring dress, flower hair pieces are more versatile than you may think. With this collection, we’ve rounded up something for everyone–because some days you just want a whisper of flowers in your hair and other days you can only go big or go home à la Lana del Rey:

With a little creativity, you can incorporate a floral hair piece into an everyday outfit.  Picture this: black skinny jean, sheer blue blouse, dainty white cherry blossom pins just keeping your hair off your face. Or: white cotton maxi dress, worn (but close-fitting) denim jacket, voluptuous, dark red flower crown.  Although flowers are oh-so-feminine, don’t be afraid to pair them with more masculine elements.  For example, a delicate pink floral crown could look killer when paired with scuffed, chunky boots.  Remember: beauty is often expressed in exaggeration and contrast–so have fun! There are flowers in your hair!

So delicate and sweet–these are the floral hair accessories to turn to if you’re feeling a little intimated by the trend. You could begin with just wearing one in your hair, securing a piece of hair to the side. To secure, pin a plain bobby pin over the center of the flower pin to form an “X.” Alternatively, you could pin multiple in small clusters on either side of your head. (Bonus: these pins are made with vintage fabric flowers–cute and eco-conscious).

2. Handmade Peach Flower Crown by XOXO Beau on Etsy.

Simple, understated, and feminine. This peach flower crown can be worn with a casual outfit or formal getup. As the photo above illustrates, this subtle accessory allows for more dramatic makeup like a berry lip or a smoky eye. Pair with loose waves for a boho look or a slightly undone up-do for a more formal (but not stuffy!) look.

3. Handmade Velvet Deep Red Flower Crown by Rouge Pony on Etsy.

Get out your hipster sunnies, these luscious, scarlet flower crowns are not for the faint of heart! If you’re looking for what to wear at an outdoor concert, start with a statement flower crown that makes your heart beat a little faster and build an outfit around that. Since such a an intense accessory is so well, intense, you can keep the rest of your outfit subdued.  You don’t wouldn’t want any thing to compete with this crowning glory.

4. Handmade Pink Cherry Blossom Crystal Leaf Crown Headband by Miss Wild Flowers on Etsy

If you’re like me, you’re used to wearing behind-the-ears headbands (I still have some from fifth grade!–don’t know if that’s a good thing…).  If you’re not ready to launch into the more bohemian crown style of floral hair accessory, this may be a good option for you.  I would probably pair this lovely cherry blossom headband with a cropped black cardigan and cream lace skirt.

5. Handmade White Cherry Blossom Floral Combs by Spearmint and Thyme on Etsy.

Okay, okay, it is wedding season after all. What’s a wedding without a few vintage-style hair combs? These white mulberry-paper cherry blossom combs would beautifully accent a coiffed up-do.  Alternatively, they would also look lovely nestled at the top of a loose side-braid.

How will you wear flowers this season?
