Revel In The Desert Magic—& Wildly Delicious Vegan Restaurants In Santa Fe, New Mexico

February 7, 2019

If you have never been to Santa Fe, then it’s absolutely a destination to add to your 2019 travel list. Santa Fe is enjoyable all year round, with summers that don’t get too hot and winters that don’t get too cold. Although it’s been a ski destination in the past and at 7,000 meters above sea level that’s not a surprise, the town has gotten little to no snow in the last few years.

New Mexico feels like a little bit of a different world, nobody can deny that. The strong Spanish influence, mixed with Native American heritage and Mexican immigrant culture makes it a truly magical place. Culture and traditions are abundant and so is absolutely delicious food.

Pasqual’s is an absolute must in town that doubles as a gallery for local artisans and artists. While the menu is not vegan, there are lots of vegan options to chose from. The two mole enchiladas are incredible and come with tofu chorizo. Hmm, so yummy!

Santa Fe Oxygen & Healing Bar – Apothecary is the perfect spot for a healthy breakfast or quick bite. Their açaí bowl is one of the bests I’ve ever had – not too sweet, great crunchy toppings and a nice portion size. I also highly recommend the hot  chocolate peanut butter drink—the name says it all! You can also get a massage, alternative healing, and even spa treatments. You could literally spend all day here and have a blissful time.

If you are looking for a nice sit-down dinner, that is not too fancy and offers lots of options for vegan and non vegans alike, check out Sweetwater. They offer some New Mexican dishes like tacos and enchiladas, as well as a delicious dal. Don’t miss out on the avocado chocolate mousse.

If you need a break from (new) Mexican food—although it’s hard to get to that point with so much deliciousness—check out Paper Dosa. The Southern Indian crepes are delightful and I have never seen them come in that size. I also highly recommend the Mushroom Papadam.

If you can, absolutely do a day trip to Taos, just 2 hours north of Santa Fe. Stop by Wild Leaven Bakery for fresh bread—we loved the millet buckwheat. The place also offers daily soup specials with vegan options. If you are looking for more of a sit down lunch, check out Manzanita market—we loved the salad and vegan sandwich. The corn chowder is also a must. Unreal food!

Chokola is an absolute must and a great place to get a gift or a slice of raw chocolate cake—all vegan, bien sur!
