Rosie Huntington-Whitely's Makeup Artist Shares 5-Minute Look Anyone Can Do

August 2, 2018

Model Rosie Huntington-Whitely recently launched Rose Inc., an outlet for RHW to share the beauty secrets and insider tips she’s picked up during her 16-year tenure in the modeling industry. Although Rose Inc. is in its infancy, it’s already easy to spend hours pouring over the expert advice and ogling the gorgeous products and tutorials.

In one video tutorial, celebrity makeup artist Kate Synnott spends a mere five minutes on Rosie, giving her a perfectly balanced, fresh, glowing look that would translate well to photos and IRL alike. In short, it’s a look just about every makeup-lover attempts to perfect.

Some of Synnott’s strategies may surprise you. Read on for the highlights and her favorite tools!

Synnott’s handiwork on Rosie Huntington-Whitely.

1. For a long-lasting, flattering finish, combine foundation formulas.

We’ve heard of mixing foundations to find the perfect shade, especially between seasons, but Synnott takes it a step further and encourages mixing foundations that have a different finish. A matte/powdery liquid foundation mixed with a glow-y foundation will yield a long-lasting result while still delivering an anti-fatigue effect. “I do it all the time for the red carpet,” Synnott says.

2. Begin by applying foundation to your cheekbones and work your way out.

Give your skin a beautiful base by applying foundation to your cheekbones and using a dense foundation brush to press it into the skin and buff it out. By applying foundation to the center of your face and working your way out, you’ll be creating a soft, diffused look. You may even discover that you need less product, and this technique is a great way to avoid an obvious line of demarcation along your jawline. You can switch between a makeup sponge and a foundation brush as you add the finishing touches.

3. Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Kate Synnott are both obsessed with this lip oil!

Both women raved about this innovative product–Hourglass Lip Treatment Oil. “I have this in my car,” Rosie said. “and I’m at traffic likes just going at it for ages.” (That’s probably safer than texting while driving, right?)

While the product does look super luxurious, you can prep your lips with any rich balm you have on hand. The idea is to pamper your pout while you finish your face, so when it’s time to apply your lip color, your lips won’t be dry or papery. Genius!

4. Apply concealer to the inner corners of your eyes.

Synnott applied a small pat of concealer to RHW’s inner eyes. This immediately brightens the eyes, helps you look less tired, neutralizes any redness in or around your eyes, and makes your eyes look more open. (You can also mix your concealers for a custom finish!)

5. Try using a separate bronzer and contour powder.

I’m all about this tip! Use a shadowy shade for your contour–anything too warm can make your complexion look muddy. Once you’ve perfected your contour, you can add a touch of warmth with a little bronzer on areas that naturally get sun-kissed.

6. Use your fingers to apply eye shadow!

I was floored by this tip! I’ve used my finger to apply a bit of eye shadow to a mostly complete look but never for the entire eyelid–that’s just what Synnott did, though. Using just a finger (no brush!), she applied a wash of gold to Rosie’s moving eyelid for a tough of glamour.

7. Tight-line your upper lid.

This one is actually Rosie’s tip! She ran a pencil liner along her upper lash line–really getting into the lashes rather than drawing a line per se, and explained that this technique helps open and define the eyes without adding a heavy line.

After a touch of lip color, the look was complete–and I definitely felt inspired to try my hand at some of these super easy, get-glowing techniques!
