Head To One Of These Magical Wellness Destinations For A Total Mind-Body Reboot

January 8, 2018

In 2018, I’m planning to prioritize self-care. That’s at least what I’m telling myself, and I’m trying to stick to that plan by focusing on getting as much relaxation time in as possible.

One way to relax is to make sure your next vacation brings you to a wellness destination. There is nothing wrong with action-packed hiking trips or big city weekends–and they definitely have a place in everyone’s life–but true relaxation can only happen in a zen environment, where you let your body and mind calm down and take a real break.

Check out some of my favorite wellness destinations for 2018–and don’t forget to send me a postcard 😉

Top Wellness Destinations for 2018

1. Bali

The 5 Wellness Destinations Not to Be Missed in 2018

No wellness travel list is complete without Bali on it. It might sound cliché, but this little Indonesian paradise really stole my heart when I visited for the first time a couple years ago. It’s easy to fall into the touristy spots, so I would recommend renting an Airbnb spot a little off the beaten path. Outside of Ubud is a good example–here, you can easily access the city center by taxi but get enough of a break from the yogi tourist crowd. I recommend renting a scooter and taking day trips to the nearby beaches, as well as long rides through the rice fields. Just stop by the little Warungs (restaurants) on the way and enjoy a fresh coconut or delicious smoothie.

2. Taiwan

Taiwan is one of the most underrated places I have ever been to. Nobody really talks about it as a travel destination, but it’s definitely worth the trip–and flights are usually very affordable from the East Coast. One of the most relaxing activities is spending time at one of the hot springs, a truly unique experience. Afterwards, treat yourself to an all-vegan buffet at Buddha Vegetarian Paradise.

3. Acadia National Park in Maine

Looking for something more local? Check out Acadia National Park, the perfect place for a summer getaway that is both relaxing and invigorating. Besides offering long walks and hikes, the island also has a couple of nice and luxurious wellness hotels where you can spend a spa day. Don’t forget to stop by Thrive Bar for a smoothie bowl and a healthy treat.

4. Biarritz

Biarritz, located on the Atlantic coast in the South of France, is one of my favorite places in the world. I spent all my summers there as a child; less crowded and touristy than Cannes and on the Mediterranean, it’s also a little bit less discovered. Tucked in between the ocean and the Pyrenees mountains, the town has some of the best air and most delicious Bask food (the local chocolate store Henriet will definitely contribute to your wellbeing). Biarritz is also home to Thalasso, a seawater spa, which is a luxurious and delicious experience.

5. Budapest

The Hungarian capital is not only known for its gorgeous architecture (the Royal Palace is breathtaking), its beautiful museums and its vital pub scene, but also one of the best places to enjoy thermal baths and spas. Thermal baths here are more affordable than in other places and integrally part of the Hungarian mode de vie, so you can easily spend your happy hour at a different thermal bath each night. Treat yourself to a massage before heading out for hearty dinner at Napfenyes Restaurant and Pastry Shop.
