Beauty Inspo From A Dragon Queen: Emilia Clarke's Get-Glowing Secrets

August 29, 2017

We’ve just finished one wild season of Game of Thrones, but our fascination with the characters and the actors who play them will last us until the show returns in 2019 (will we be able to stand it?!). This past season featured a good deal of everyone’s favorite Mother of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen, played by the charming and versatile Emilia Clarke.

While I can’t offer you any tips on transitioning your dragons to a vegan diet, I did do a bit of digging into Clarke’s beauty routine. Here, we share the actress’ favorite beauty staples, what inspires her own brand of glam, plus vegan, cruelty-free products that will help you channel the Queen of Meereen.

Emilia Clarke’s Beauty Secrets

Prioritize skin care. Clarke has sensitive skin, which can be tough when your job requires you to wear loads of makeup (especially all of the stage makeup Clarke wore to play Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s on broadway—we’re fan-girling out over here!). To keep her skin baby soft, Clarke relies on inflammation-soothing, hypoallergenic products. Try this non-drying Ursa Major Fantastic Face to effectively remove makeup.

Nourish natural locks. The Breaker of Chains may sport a silvery blonde ’do, but Clarke has naturally dark, wavy hair. To keep it lush and strong, she uses moisturizing products to strengthen and repair her hair. Try one of our favorite conditioning hair oils for all hair concerns. (I love Kani Shine Elixir—Nourishing Hair Oil.)

Enhance your brows for a bold beauty look. For brow enthusiasts (okay, all of us), Clarke is our Moon and Stars. She actually listened to her mother when warned to leave her eyebrows alone—and we’re glad she did! Enhance your natural brows with a brow pencil (like Lily Lolo Eyebrow Duo). Also, consider treating your brows to a bit of castor oil, a natural way to nourish brow hairs and promote healthy growth.

Sport a beautiful red lip. Daenerys Targaryen is also known as The Unburnt, so naturally, Clarke isn’t afraid of a fiery red lip. “If I’m going out with my mates, I will do their makeup and teach them. I also help them put on red lipstick, which I always encourage people to wear. The key is finding the right shade for you,” she said. Check out Axiology’s line of luxe vegan lipsticks.

Hop in the bath!  Did you know that Clarke does her own stunts on GoT? It’s no wonder that she likes to recoup with a soothing soak. “Bathtime is a ritual! You’ve got to get the right temperature, you must have good bath salts or Epsom salts and dissolve them properly, and you need bath oils to get some scents going. I don’t do bubble bath—it makes me feel too much like a kid. I have to soak for at least half an hour,” Clarke told Violet Grey. “Having three hours to take a BATH is like finding a leprechaun at the end of the rainbow.” We’ll bend the knee to that!
