Rosario Dawson may play the coolest nurse ever on Marvel’s Daredevil and Luke Cage, but Dawson’s cool girl cred goes way beyond her acting roles. In addition to being a political activist (and winding up in handcuffs a few times thanks to her fervor), Dawson is also a green beauty enthusiast.
In particular, she relies on two green beauty brands to maintain her gorgeous locks and stunning skin. She told Curly Nikki that she adores cruelty-free hair care line Tara Smith:
“My really good friend Tara Smith, who did my hair on Death Proof, started a product line called Tara Smith. It’s paraben-free, and she said it’s tested on film stars, not animals. The line is eco-conscious and works really well. I use everything from the Base Coat Serum to the shampoos. They have a line for curly hair, Curly C and one called Straight Away if you’re looking to straighten your hair or defrizz, and it really works… you don’t even really have to flat iron it. I really love her stuff.”
Tara Smith is committed to an ethical vegan philosophy when it comes to sourcing ingredients. The line is also non-toxic and free of SLES, glycols, phthalates, PEGS, artificial coloring, and synthetic fragrances. The Base Coat Serum uses starflower seed extract to increase shine by 65% while helping you maintain your style for up to 24 hours.
Dawson’s beauty routine doesn’t stop at her hair, of course. The actress and activist is a huge fan of skincare brand Sibu:
“I also have a friend that does a beauty line called Sibu. They take sea buckthorn berries from the Himalayas and use them in their products. They have a facial and body cream, oil, liquid supplement, and detox treatment. It’s all so fit and delicious and very, very natural. The supplement, I find, really helps knock out inflammation. I used to give it to my grandmother before she passed. She had really bad arthritis and had to have those really weird jar opener things to open stuff up, and she threw them all away, and the lumps in her hands went down.”
Containing roughly 190 bioactive compounds, sea berry (sea buckthorn) is a rich source of Omegas 3, 6, and 9. It’s also packed with Omega-7, a fatty acid that supports collagen production and healthy skin, hair, and nails. Sea buckthorn is sustainably harvested for Sibu products.
