5 Best Home Workout Videos

February 3, 2016

fitnessMany people think exercise must involve serious time commitment or costly gym fees. The truth is, it’s possible get a great workout without having to leave your house or hand over lots of cash. While I do enjoy a good class or gym session from time to time, I also enjoy incorporating other forms of fitness. Some of my favorite exercise routines are ones that are brief, low-cost and accessible through the web. Here are my top 5 picks for home workouts that’ll get you sweating.

Ali Kamenova (YouTube)

5 Best Home Workout Videos

Ali leads yoga videos that usually incorporate HIIT (high intensity interval training). It’s great because you’re toning and stretching with traditional yoga poses, but also increasing endurance and overall heart health through short bursts of cardio. You can find weekly workout schedules on her blog, along with vegan diet advice and posts on spirituality. Ali’s videos will have you sweating, but also feeling stronger and more nimble than you probably ever have.

Blogilats (Youtube)

This series is led by Cassey Ho, a pilates instructor and fitness mogul based in California. One of the best things about her videos is that they’re all very brief. Only have 10 minutes in the morning to work out? No problem- Cassey’s got you covered. Her website also has monthly workout schedules if you’d like a little more structure. One other reason why I love Cassey is her transparency- she recently “came out” about her struggle with an eating disorder on her website, which is refreshing in a world of rigid diets and grueling workouts.

Shauna Kathleen (YouTube)

BARRE-THUMB-360x360

Price: free

Love barre classes but can’t make it to the studio as much as you’d like? Look no further than Shauna’s YouTube channel. She posts ballet barre workouts that you can do at home with no equipment. They target different parts of the body, so be sure to mix it up so that you get a balanced workout. Like Cassey, Shauna is open about having struggled with disordered eating. Along with her barre routines, she posts about positive body image and adequate nutrition.

The Gym Box (Amazon)

Price: free with an Amazon Prime account, or $1.99-2.99 per episode

The kickboxing workouts are my favorite from the Gym Box. They’re fun and make me feel really powerful. However, the program has videos to suit any interest. You can choose either 30 or 60 minute routines, ranging from cardio circuits to cycling to step aerobics. The classes are all lead by qualified fitness instructors, who provide modifications to increase or decrease intensity. The videos also have little timers in the corner so you know how close you are to being finished!

Total Body Sculpt with Gilad (iTunes)

5 Best Home Workout Videos

Price: $1.99 per episode

Gilad is a former decathlete from Israel. He began making workout videos in the 80’s, but this series was released within the past decade. His body-sculpting videos include a variety of strength training exercised using hand weights or just body weight. He mixes things up so you don’t get bored, and his videos are all about 30 minutes long. They are enough to get your heart rate up and muscles burning, but not so long that you feel worn out for the rest of the day.
