Top Wellness Trends in 2015

December 22, 2014

The new year always gets me excited. Maybe it has to do with my birthday (December 30) or the idea of a fresh start, but the new year always brings for me a sense of invigoration for things to come. And what I am really looking forward to are not failed new year’s resolutions but inspiring wellness and health trends. 2014 certainly was an explosion of wellness, and now 2015 is expected to take that surge to even greater heights. Here are the five best trends to watch out for this upcoming year:

The Morning Party

So long to the after party and raging until 6am, instead say good morning to waking up early and dancing alcohol and drug-free before work. These morning raves are popping up across the world with Daybreaker and Morning Gloryville. Morning Gloryville claims to be an alternative to your traditional morning Zumba or yoga while Daybreaker calls itself a community or movement. Both offer dancing spaces where you can get hyped up before the day even begins.

Rise of technology + health

smartphone

As smartphones continue to take over the world, you will definitely see the infusion of wellness and technology. Technology is taking doctors and their medical devices out of the office with an increase in wellness and fitness mobile apps that help you track your health and athletic progress, and self-monitoring technology like wearable gadgets for your ear that deliver far more precise health monitoring information–such as real-time blood pressure and respiration rates.

Conscious Consumerism

Socially-focused companies are huge for millennials, and as our generation continues to move up in the working world (already outnumbering all other generations) conscious capitalism and consumerism is going to dominate the market with greater transparency and community-driven business models.

The major fitness crave of the new year are treadmill studios—now named the new Soulcycle. While running in place may seem monotonous, the whole idea is for a workout routine that creates an ideal training and coaching environment. Treadmill studios are based on sports science—high intensity intervals with incline training for a better training experience so chance of injuries are fewer and stride and strength are increased.

Body positivity

Body positivity is huge right now and only going to get bigger. Our culture is shifting from obsessing over unrealistic beauty standards to embracing your shape—whether that’s plus-size, muscular, or thin.

Wellness going mainstream

While health and wellness are certainly hip, being proactively healthy is still not the norm for America today. But with the rise of healthy restaurants and nutritious meal options at food chains becoming more available, wellness living is definitely making its way into everyday life.
