Let’s talk cute coats. They’re the reason for the fall season, right? You can have runny mascara and a chipped manicure, but a chic coat can make you feel put-together in a matter of seconds. Like a good pair of boots, the right jacket can feel like protective armor. Indeed, mornings aren’t so rough when you can muddle your way to work in your favorite pea coat or trench.
For vegan fashionistas, however, coat options can be a bit limited, especially considering that many coats and jackets are made with wool or leather, and some are even lined with silk. Given these limitations and the importance of finding a fabulous coat for the season (duh!), we’ve tried to make the process a bit easier and share some of the cutest vegan coats.
1. Vegan Leather Collarless Jacket (Free People)
Designed with cool girls in mind, this vegan leather jacket can be worn with jean for a classic “moto” look or paired with a flowing dress for a modern boho vibe. A faux leather jacket is a great piece to have in a transitional wardrobe because there really are so many ways to wear it.
2. Flannel Reversible Quilted Linen Coat
Made with cotton and linen (Flannel is the brand, not a material in the coat), this polished coat is all about comfort and warmth–without the bulk of heavy wool or down. Perfect for walks in the park, shopping trips, and other casual outings.
A little bit modern-edgy, a little bit Viking warrior princess, this vegan suede vest is for anyone feeling fearless this fall. While this vest would combine beautifully with a neutral palette (as shown in the photo), it would also look striking when paired with fall’s rich hues like oxblood, black cherry, organdy, and forest green.
4. Vaute Couture The Emmy A-Line Snow Coat
If you’re looking for even warmer fair, check out Vaute Couture’s high-tech snow coat. It’s created with Primaloft ECO and lined in windproof and water resistant Teijin ripstop. In English, that means it will protect you from the nasty elements of late fall and early winter–and that it was consciously designed using eco-friendly materials.
This relaxed-fit coat is made with 100% certified fair trade organic twill (similar to a midweight denim) and lined with lined with 100% certified fair trade organic voile. It’s chic androgyny at its eco best! (Apathetic look à la this model optional.)
6. ASOS Jacket in Vintage Faux Fur
This vintage-inspired faux fur coat has as much attitude as it has fluffy goodness. Pair with cigarette jeans for a truly rock n’ roll vibe. Alternatively, wear it over a simple black sheath for a pretty, model-off-duty look.
7. Kensie ‘Teddy Bear’ Notch Collar Coat
This oversized coat is perfectly cozy, making it just right for those times when you want a source of comfort, but you can’t exactly take your teddy bear with you. Pair with a simple outfit, and let this coat do all of the statement making.
