Vegan Treats: Chocolate Hummus

I really love hummus, in fact I don’t think I’ve met a hummus I didn’t like. Not too long ago we made Balsamic Roasted Sweet Potato Hummus and today I am very excited to share my recipe for Chocolate Hummus. Thick, creamy and chocolately, this recipe is awesome because it’s like enjoying protein-packed frosting! It’s perfect for dipping apple slices or dates, spreading on toast, crackers and other baked goods. Naturally I decided to use it as icing and make cookie sandwiches…

Chocolate Hummus

makes 8-10 servings

What you’ll need:

1.5 cups cooked chickpeas (or 1 can)
1/4 cup nut butter of your choice (almond, peanut, cashew, etc.)
4 dates, pitted
1/4 cup cocoa powder
2 tbs agave
2 tbs almond milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
pinch of salt

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in blender until smooth. Serve with cookies, apple slices, banana or  eat with a spoon!
