A Tasty New Way to Get Vegan Omega-3

July 1, 2013

One of the most important nutrients to watch for in a vegan diet is Omega-3 Fatty Acid.

Mamma Chia seed organic vitality drink

This is found naturally in fatty fish like salmon, but us vegans have to find other ways to keep our nervous system, cardiovascular system, skin, and hair healthy. One of the best sources of vegan Omega-3 is that beloved 90’s herbaceous pet, chia seeds (yes, chi- chi- chi- chia!)

You can buy raw chia seeds and mix them with water for a quick drink, but I especially like this Organic Mamma Chia Vitality Beverage in Pomegrante Mint. Just one bottle has 120 calories and 2500 mg Omega-3–more than a 4 oz serving of salmon! It also packs in 4 g of vegan protein, 10% of your daily calcium and 15% of your daily magnesium. Plus, it’s gluten-free, organic, and vegan, and really tasty with just a hint of sweetness.

You can also add chia seeds anywhere you might add flax seeds–for instance, salads, muffins, cookies, oatmeal, etc. Enjoy!
