7 Paleo Vegan Snacks that Taste like Heaven

October 16, 2015

Wow, the paleo diet really hit the health world by storm. The Paleolithic diet, if you don’t already know, looks to our ancient ancestors for dietary trends to take toward better health.

In short, the paleo diet recommends eating whole, unprocessed, nutrient-dense foods. Sounds great, right? Well, I may have left out the part where they also cut out some of the yummiest foods on the planet – grains! Yup, breads, pasta, basically all the tasty starches we all love so dearly … gone!

Instead, they eat foods such as grass fed meats and eggs, wild-caught seafood, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds.

Well, as a vegan, much of the choices were also … gone, since meat, eggs and dairy are a no-go. But, I was determined to try it anyway … and I did. And it was great! It really was good for my body. I was leaner, had more energy and felt a clear-headedness that was noticeably different than before the diet change.

The only obstacle was taste. I wanted delicious food that was paleo, vegan and tasty … was that too much to ask!?

Turns out it wasn’t too much to ask, because I found these incredible companies that make the most delicious paleo and vegan foods. They taste so darn good that you won’t know the difference (dare I say they taste better than their grain/dairy counterpart?).

Check out these 7 paleo and vegan super tasty snacks:

tigernut

Organic Gemini TigerNut Granola– This unique granola is gluten-free, nut-free and even raw! They basically soak and dehydrate TigerNuts (a tiny root vegetable called a tuber) and mix in a buch of other yummy stuff like apples, dates and cinnamon (mmm…). Tigernuts are believed to make up 80% of our paleo ancestors diet. They’re chock-full of prebiotic resistant starch, vitamins, and nutrients that make these a total nutrition powerhouse.

Kalot Superfood Fruit & Almond Butter with Blueberries, Cinnamon & Walnuts. I’ve recently become mildly obsessed with nut butters. Especially the ones that infuse other superfood ingredients in with them. Kolat is the best. This one in particular I can’t get enough of. Dried, blueberry pieces mixed in with delectable almond butter with cinnamon. I eat this stuff straight outta the jar (though it’s also lovely on toast).

Boulder Cookie– Oh–em-gee, these tasty morsels are too good to be true. These gluten-free, grain-free, vegan and paleo delightful cookies win on taste and texture. In fact, many are gravitating toward this company’s baked goods as a more delicious and healthier alternative to conventional cookies and baked goods. They’re true chewy goodness!

2moms

2 Moms in the Raw Grain Free Cereal– Definitely one of my favorite cereals of all time. I ate these not only with my homemade hemp milk, but also by themselves as an on-the-go granola snack. Some of the ingredients include apples, bananas, coconut, dates, figs and raisins (known to boost immunity, lower inflammation and “feed” your muscles). The sunflower seeds, almonds and walnuts add the protein in and the chia seeds give you an extra energy boost!

Just Pure Foods Sesame Zucchini Dijon Chips– I’m pretty stoked on this company – they make chips and snacks out of raw, dried veggies. Keeping their ingredients simple and “pure,” their zucchini chips really surprised me with flavors that popped, big time. Love ‘em!

9pesto

Living Nutz Passionate Pesto Walnutz– I didn’t know how much I missed pesto since becoming vegan. After I tried these, I realized what I had been missing and was so glad to find a vegan/paleo option. This company is completely raw and their nuts are soaked, marinated in real certified organic ingredients and air dried for the most nutritional value (and delectable taste).

Flackers- Crackers + Flaxseeds = duh … FLACKERS! I both enjoy saying the name and find it incredibly annoying at the same time. Their crackers, on the other hand, are not annoying at all – they’re yummy and so healthy! And I’ve found a great chip substitute for dipping into my guacamole.

Coconut Bliss Non-Dairy Ice Cream Coconut Almond in Chocolate Bars- I wasn’t going to leave you without dairy-free ice cream … no way! Does anything sound better than “Creamy Coconut with an Almond Crunch, Dipped in Organic Fair Trade Chocolate”? I think not. These are one of my favorite ice cream bars on the planet.
